After hours of struggling to strategize a schedule to reach my business goals by the end of the year, I nearly gave up on finding a solution. So I decided to take my dog out and get some fresh air. It was exactly what I needed. So I came back home more determined than ever and believed for a solution. I came up with a feasible plan for an effective schedule using The Memento Strategy. I started with a primary goal to reach by December and worked backwards (sometimes forwards and even out of order) to set realistic goals every month prior. Starting with my end goal, here's what I came up with:
- DECEMBER: My business to be stable and provide consistent income for the next six months into the new year.
- NOVEMBER: Earn $35k in gross profits.
- OCTOBER: Earn $20k in gross profits.
- SEPTEMBER: Earn $10k in gross profits.
- AUGUST: Hard launch of my business.
- JULY: Begin booking clients.
- JUNE: Soft launch of my business.
- MAY: Execute marketing strategy.
- APRIL: Complete business plan.
It's like a ladder, isn't it? Each step is required to move to the next. And as you can see, reaching the top requires a solid foundation. I'm sure these goals might change as life isn't always so planned out, but at least I have a decent guideline to help me reach my ultimate goal at the end of the year. The next thing I need to do is set weekly goals in accordance to each monthly goal. From there, I can set all my daily tasks based on those weekly goals, thus creating a kick-butt to-do list.
You might find this strategy strange, but it's a strategy that has purpose. These aren't just steps I'm taking. These are progressive steps that intentionally move me forward. I almost gave up because I couldn't figure out a solution. But there's always a solution to every puzzle. So whatever problem or puzzle you're trying to figure out, don't stress. Step outside and take a breather. Then come back and believe you have the ability to figure it out, and push through.
Be clever. Be intentional. And be driven with purpose.
