Day 87: Staying Out Of Debt

The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is slave to the lender.
— Proverbs 22:7 (NIV)

Today, I'm shooting a wedding. It may not be exactly the kind of work I'll be doing for my business, but it's a great way to start building income. I refuse to take out a loan to start my business. Getting into debt is a bad idea no matter how you look at it. If I took out a loan and my business flops, then I'm screwed trying to be back the loan with money I don't have.

Using credit cards are just as bad, if not worse, because it's still using money you don't have. Did you know that the average credit card debt for Americans is $15,191? That statistic was taken on April 2014. Here's an chart I found from nerdwallet.com:

I strongly believe there's a mental epidemic in our generation that credit & loans are normal, and that everyone should have it. That's bull. Being in debt means being a slave to the lender, and I refuse to be a slave.

So what's the take away? Earn your money, don't borrow it. I know many entrepreneurs won't agree with me, and that's okay. This is how I'm going to run my business...completely debt free. There's freedom in being debt free, and I want the freedom for my business to focus on the work and not debt.
